Natural Ultramix® Canine and Feline Formulas

Take the nutritional benefits associated with our meat-based diet that utilizes chicken meat, turkey meat, chicken meal, turkey meal, fish meal, and egg as highly bioavailable and palatable sources of protein and add the additional vitamins, minerals, enzymes and antioxidants associated with fruits and vegetables … that’s Natural Ultramix!

Many foods include fruits and/or vegetables but their nutritional value is severely compromised due to the cooking/extrusion process. Not so in Natural Ultramix!

The dehydrated fruits and vegetables in Natural Ultramix still pack their nutritional punch! Blended with the crunchy Natural Ultramix kibble, the combination is a paws-down hit with four-legged best friends of all shapes, ages, and sizes!

Why is salt added?

Salt is essential in the diet and is comprised of 2 essential macro minerals – sodium and chloride. Salt is added to meet optimal levels for the health and well-being of dogs and cats as established by AAFCO. Given the amount of raw meat used in Ultramix (raw meat is low in sodium), salt is added. Ultramix is considered to have a low to average level of salt but anyone with a dog on a restricted salt diet should always consult their veterinarian before switching to Ultramix.

What is chicken meal and turkey meal and where do they come from?

Chicken meat and turkey meat is dried and ground; in other words, the moisture is removed. Don’t confuse meal with by-products!! We are often asked if the chicken meal (or turkey meal) is “human grade” … technically there is no such thing as “human grade” chicken or turkey meal because they are only used in pet food.

What is Choline Chloride?

Choline is in the structure of the cell membrane and is needed to keep it healthy and flexible.

Why Prebiotics and Probiotics?

Prebiotics and Probiotics are needed to help maintain a healthy gut. They aid food digestion and help adjust pH acidity of the GI tract to make it good for “friendly” bacteria and not attractive to “bad” bacteria.

Probiotics are direct-fed microbials that are added to the formula before extrusion. However, they have been proven to survive the extrusion process.

Prebiotics are the beneficial substrate or growth media that promotes and/or demotes the bacterial population in the GI tract. They are not “live”; they are typically non-digestible food or plant ingredients.

Why is glucosamine and chondriotin only in the Adult Canine and Weight Management formulas? Do they survive the extrusion process? How much is in Ultramix?

Typically arthritic problems are not apparent with cats. Yes, the Glucosamine and Chondroitin survive the extrusion process as they’ve been found to be heat-stable. The Glucosamine and Chondroitin perform as a nutritional aid to the structure and function of the joint; the amount included is not designed to be therapeutic.

What is the source of the chondroitin and glucosamine?

They are naturally sourced from chicken cartilage.

Is the Adult Feline Formula and Indoor Feline Formulas to be used for cats with urinary tract problems?

Please consult with your veterinarian if your cat is experiencing problems of any sort. Ultramix Feline Formulas help maintain a healthy urinary tract and reduce urinary pH. They are formulated to produce a slightly acidic urine (6.2 to 6.6 pH) with limited magnesium to help prevent the formation of struvite crystals.

Should I be concerned about food allergies?

Only 1% of all skin problems in dogs and cats are due to food allergies! And, only 5 to10 percent of all allergic reactions in dogs are due to food! Ultramix has no corn, no wheat, no beef, all of which are common allergens.

What are the sources of the Omega 6/Omega 3 Fatty Acids?

Menhaden fish meal, flaxseed.

Studies indicate healthy animals fed diets with ratios ranging from 5:1 to 10:1 demonstrated a decreased production of inflammatory substances called leukotrienes B in plasma and neutrophils in skin. There is not currently an AFFCO standard for Omega 6/3 ratios.

What nutritional value do the potato, brown rice, flax, barley and oats add?

They are complex carbohydrates and provide for the slow release of energy. A good source of dietary fiber and a natural source of chelated vitamins and trace minerals, they also provide Omega-3 fatty acids.

What is dicalcium phosphate?

It is a common source of calcium and phosphorous that is used to supplement these two important minerals in a pet’s diet. It is commonly found in natural and holistic diets and can also be purchased in powder form as a supplement. It is used in Natural Ultramix instead of, for example, bone meal which is a lower quality source often found in lesser quality foods.

What is the nutritional value associated with the fruits and veggies?

Natural Ultramix includes real pieces of carrots, bananas, papaya, apple, and blueberries. You’ll see them in every bowl! The fruits and vegetables provide gentle dietary fiber and are rich in important antioxidant nutrients, additional enzymes, vitamins and minerals.

What is DHA?

DHA is in Ultramix Puppy Formula and Ultramix Kitten Formula as our Firm Foundation™ for healthy growth and development. DHA is an omega-3 fatty acid that is important for neural development. It is a major structural component of the brain as well as the most abundant fatty acid in the brain. It plays a vital role in the development of the central nervous system and retinal function.

Prior to weaning, puppies and kittens get DHA from their mothers. After weaning, they can obtain DHA through their diet for continuing neural development. Research has shown that puppies nourished on diets with enhanced levels of DHA showed a marked improvement in trainability.

The DHA in Natural Ultramix comes from the fish oil in the fish meal in both formulas.

What is L-Carnitine?

L-Carnitine is a nutritional supplement that releases energy from fat.
