Organix takes pet food safety and quality to a whole new level!

For the sixth consecutive year, C&P's ORGANIX adult canine dry food has been named to Whole Dog Journal's "top foods" list. To gain Whole Dog Journal approval, foods must pass a rigorous review that assesses the amount and quality of meat protein, and commends the use of organic ingredients, whole grains and vegetables instead of processed ingredients or fragments. Foods are rejected if they include meat or poultry by-products, unidentified fats or protein, or added sweeteners, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

A leader from the beginning, ORGANIX Feline Formula was recognized by Cat Fancy Magazine as the best new product when introduced. Since then Organix Dry and Canned Feline Formulas have consistently been recognized for the highest quality and value.

More than one-third of Organix is comprised of the highest quality animal-based proteins -- You'll really smell the chicken when you open the bag!

Organic certification is required at all levels of the manufacturing process including a complete review of every ingredient in Organix - an expensive and exhaustive process to produce the best possible organic diet for dogs and cats. (Such a third-party review and approval process is not required for "natural", human grade or "holistic" diets.) All organic ingredient suppliers must be certified organic as do the processors of our ingredients, and the manufacturer of our formulas.

FAQ's

Why add fruit & veggie to the dog formulas?
Benefits include:
• Organic Broccoli contains potent cancer-fighting properties, is rich in Vitamin A, is an excellent source of fiber, and also provides folic acid and calcium.
• Organic Pumpkin is a rich source of antioxidants, fiber, potassium, magnesium, Vitamins C and E.
• Organic Pears are a healthy source of nutrients including Vitamin A, B2,
C and potassium.
• Organic Blackberries are an excellent source of Vitamins C and E plus potassium.
• Tomato Pomace - "Skinless" tomatoes. Concentrated source of Lycopene, considered a premier antioxidant that actually improves with heat in the cooking process. Excellent source of amino acids.

What's different about Less Active Formula?
• L-Carnitine - Nutritional supplement that helps release energy from fat.
• 21.5% protein compared to 26% in Organix Adult Canine Formula. 6% less calories. Fat at 10% (same as Adult Formula) to maintain skin/coat.

What's different about Indoor Feline?
• Powdered Cellulose - Natural plant fiber source. Provides insoluble fiber to help control hairballs.
• Lower protein, lower fat, higher fiber compared to Organix Adult Feline & Kitten Formula. Fewer calories too.

What is quinoa?
Not a grain but a plant related to the spinach family. Naturally gluten free. Contains 9 essential amino acids, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants, and phytonutrients. Considered a "super protein". Easy to digest.

What is organic millet?
Whole grain rich in amino acids, B-complex vitamins, fiber, and protein.

What is chicken meal and where does it come from?
Castor & Pollux uses natural chicken meat that is dried resulting in a highly digestible and bioavailable source of protein.

Why is the chicken meal not organic?
Currently there is no source of organic chicken meal.

What are the nutritional benefits associated with organic peas?
Organic peas are a quality carbohydrate source and a good source of protein.

What are the nutritional benefits associated with organic barley and organic brown rice?
Both are quality carbohydrate sources. Because organic barley is not a common ingredient in pet food, it also reduces the risk of allergies. The organic brown rice used in Organix is partially de-hulled resulting in a good source of fiber and additional source of B vitamins.

Are all of the essential amino acids represented?
Yes and all exceed AAFCO's minimum requirements for adult maintenance diets. No supplementation is needed.

Why is rosemary extract used?
It is a good antioxidant and natural preserving agent for chicken fat.

What is the natural liver flavor source?
Chicken liver.

Why Organic Flaxseed?
Our organic flaxseed is full of essential fatty acids to help promote a healthy skin and coat.

What is Choline Chloride?
Choline is in the structure of the cell membrane and is needed to keep it healthy and flexible. It is the source of Choline in the diet and Choline is a vitamin-like nutrient (often referred to as Vitamin B-like) that is essential for dogs and cats. It is found naturally in plants and in animal tissues and is made into a powder that is about 70% choline and 30% chloride that is then added to our diets. Choline is needed for the structure of all cell membranes, plasma lipoproteins, and pulmonary surfactant. It is important in the central nervous system too.

Why is salt added?
Salt is essential in the diet and is comprised of 2 essential macro minerals - sodium and chloride. Salt is added to meet optimal levels for the health and well-being of dogs and cats as established by AAFCO. Given the amount of raw meat used in Organix (raw meat is low in sodium), salt must be added. Organix is considered to have a low to average level of salt but anyone with a dog on a restricted salt diet should always consult their veterinarian before switching to Organix. All Organix dry formulas contain salt at 0.25%

Why Prebiotics and Probiotics?
Prebiotics and Probiotics are needed to help maintain a healthy gut and to help with food digestion. They help adjust pH acidity of GI tract to make it good for "friendly" bacteria and not attractive to "bad" bacteria.

Probiotics are direct-fed microbials that are added to the formula before extrusion. Formal research has been conducted to prove that probiotics survive the extrusion process and grow to benefit the GI system when consumed.

Prebiotics are the beneficial substrate or growth media that promotes and/or demotes the bacterial population in the GI tract. They are not "live"; they are typically non-digestible food or plant ingredients. In Organix, it is the organic grains that, in part, assume this role.

Is the chicken fat organic?
There currently is a very limited supply of organic chicken fat, and we do use it in ORGANIX Feline formulas.

Why is glucosamine and chondroitin only in the canine formulas? Do they survive the extrusion process? How much is in Organix?
Typically arthritic problems are not apparent with cats. Yes, they survive the extrusion process as they've been found to be heat-stable. There is 1.5 mg of each per cup (8 oz) that performs as a nutritional aid to the structure and function of the joint; it is not designed to be therapeutic.

What is the source of the chondroitin and glucosamine?
The glucosamine comes from shrimp and the chondroitin comes from poultry.

What is dicalcium phosphate?
It is a common source of calcium and phosphorous that is used to supplement these two important minerals in a puppy's diet. It is commonly found in natural and holistic diets and can also be purchased in powder form as a supplement. It is used in Organix Puppy Formula instead of, for example, bone meal which is a lower quality source often found in lesser quality foods.

Are any of the ingredients in Organix genetically modified?
No, there are no GMO's.

Where is Organix made?
At our certified organic plant in Kansas.

Is the feline formula OK for cats with urinary tract problems?
You need to consult your veterinarian if your cat is experiencing problems of any sort. Organix Feline Formula helps maintain a healthy urinary tract and reduces urinary pH. The ideal range is between 6.2 and 6.6.

Should I be concerned about food allergies?
Only 1% of all skin problems in dogs and cats are due to food allergies! And, only 5 to10 percent of all allergic reactions in dogs are due to food! Organix has no corn, no wheat, and no beef, all of which are common allergens.

What is the calcium to phosphorous ratio? 1.25: 1.0

Is the salmon used in our salmon meal farm raised or wild?
It is wild and sourced from the Pacific Ocean.

What are the sources of the Omega 6/Omega 3 Fatty Acids?
Salmon and flax. Omega 6/Omega 3 ratios are:

Canine Adult 5.7:1 Feline Adult & Kitten 3.8:1
Less Active Canine 5.0:1 Indoor Cat 2.5:1
Puppy 5.5:1

Studies indicate healthy animals fed diets with ratios up to 10:1 demonstrated a decreased production of inflammatory substances called leukotrienes B in plasma and neutrophils in skin. There is not currently an AFFCO standard for Omega 6/3 ratios.

What is the carbohydrate level?
Approximately 40% in Organix Canine Formula, 43.1% in Organix Less Active Dog and 38.5% in Organix Puppy Formula, 36.4% in Organix Adult & Kitten and 37.7% in Organix Indoor Cat Formula. The carbohydrates in Organix provide an additional source of energy and some dietary bulk. Fat is the primary source of energy but too much fat in a diet can lead to obesity. Small, firm stools indicate a balanced diet including an optimal amount of carbohydrates.

What is the ME (metabolizable energy)?
The ME indicates how much of the diet is actually "used" by the body. Organix is highly digestible (and highly palatable)!1 cup of Organix Canine is 394 kcal per cup of metabolizable energy.

Isn't it expensive?
Because ORGANIX formulas offer higher nutrition, pet parents can feed their cat or dog less volume but higher quality. Cost per day to feed a 25-pound dog is only 88 cents, and cost per day to feed a 10-pound adult cat is only 55 cents!
